We come from the sea

Hayley, Jody, and I had a great time playing some tunes for the opening of Joan Jonas' exhibit "We come from the sea" at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. The exhibit is open until October 4th.

 

Scotia Festival of Music Closing Gala

It was fun to be back in the huge orchestra again this year for Scotia Festival of Music's Closing Gala! The program included works by Sokolović, Cusson, Adams, and Mussorgsky, conducted by Jeffery Meyer.

Metropolis at Old Confidence Lodge

On May 24th, Andrew MacKelvie, Andrew Jackson, and I were the soundtrack for a screening of Metropolis at the Old Confidence Lodge. We're hoping to be back for more silent film screenings soon!

Upstream's yearly concert micro / MACRO took place last weekend, presenting a variety of brand-new one-page works for improvising orchestra!

Natural Elements + Gina Burgess

In Medias Res V

Friday was the fifth In Medias Res show! This one featured Percollations (Laura Lee) in a trio with Herman Murmur in the first half. The second half was Controlled Burn.

 

Order Up!

Rooted Dance's yearly fundraiser "Order Up!" took place this weekend! I had a blast improvising with a great crew of dancers and musicians. Learn more about Rooted Dance here.

Gaza and Fiddle Fundraisers

I played at a couple of beautiful fundraisers on Friday: a Music Relay, raising funds for the Sameer Project, an aid initiative in the Gaza Strip, and a Fiddle Party, raising funds for Merry Time Music Co.'s scholarship program.

An Cumann Céilí

On March 14, I had a great time as part of the band for An Cumann's annual St. Patrick's Day dinner and dance. Mark Currie, Colin Carrigan, Glenn Coolen, and myself played some dinner music as well as accompanying céilí dances. Thanks to all the fantastic organizers and to Gianna Lauren our sound technician!

 

Many Worlds Album Launch Shows

In advance of our March 6 album release date, we played two launch shows, one at the Annex in Canning and one at the Seahorse in Halifax!

The Tuesday night session in Halifax has a new weekly home at the Marquee Ballroom, with Colin Carrigan and myself as the regular hosts! Come on by to play or listen, 7:30-10:30pm!

Borrowers + Hayley Ryerson Quartet

The West Brooklyn Speakeasy is going strong with shows every Saturday night! I went down last weekend for a double bill with both Borrowers and the Hayley Ryerson Quartet. Thanks so much to the Speakeasy for the very warm hospitality.

 

Sensory Accessible Concert

Adrianna and I played a Sensory Accessible concert on the weekend, which was a delight as always. Thanks so much to Jennifer, Cecilia Concerts, the Halifax Central Library, and the music therapy and dance team for making it such a well-organized and welcoming experience for us and the audience!

Sacred Silence, Sacred Sounds

Last week I had the pleasure of playing at First Baptist Church for their meditative monthly gathering. The event combined poems by Mary Oliver, prayers, and solo harp music, in particular music from the Irish slow air tradition which is very profound. Thank you FBC for having me!

The Golden Goose

Adrianna and I released a new single yesterday called The Golden Goose! It's a set of two original tunes, the first by me and the second by Adrianna. Graeme Campbell recorded, mixed, and mastered it, and Matt Horseman took our photo. We love playing these tunes together. Check it out on bandcamp:

Mirror Era

The first single from Many Worlds' debut album, Mirror Era, came out today! The whole album comes out on March 6, and is now available for pre-order on bandcamp. I love this band and am very proud of what we've made together - very excited for the recording to be released!

Open Waters Festival 2026

This year's Open Waters was another excellent edition of the festival. I played on Saturday with Borrowers and on Sunday with Many Worlds, who performed a piece by Michael C. Duguay arranged by Andrew MacKelvie.

St. George's Lessons & Carols

It was great to back at St. George's Round Church this weekend for the first performance of 2026, to accompany the adult and junior choirs in a few beautiful selections - Wolcum Yole, This Little Babe, Time of Snow, Ave Maria, and In Dulci Jubilo. Thank you to Garth and the congregation for including me!
