Sheet Music Store

This week I launched a new sheet music store on Etsy! Following the Huron Harp Festival, I received a few specific requests for sheet music, so I have made those pieces available here: www.ellengiblingharp.etsy.com

So far, only Duine Air Call and Garden River are for sale, but I'll continue to add arrangements as requests come in. The arrangements are for solo harp, written just as I would play them in performance. However, I'm working on some more pedagogical material... stay tuned!

Bombadils and Magpies

The Bombadils shared a bill at the Carleton last week with a lovely band from the UK - The Magpies! This has been an exciting time for the Bombadils, as they just won Americana/Bluegrass Recording of the year from Music Nova Scotia and have been nominated in three categories at the Canadian Folk Music Awards: Vocal Group of the Year, Ensemble of the Year, and Single of the Year (for Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming).

Elizabeth Fry Society Gala

I recently was introduced to the work of the Elizabeth Fry Society through playing at their fundraising gala. I was very impressed by the scope of the programs they run, and the amazing team of staff with lived experience who are doing important work on the ground! Check out their website to learn more about them and donate if you are able. Thanks to Seymour Snaps for this photograph!

False Knight Gaza Fundraiser

About a decade ago, I recorded my first solo album "The False Knight & Other Tunes". It is a collection of music I was playing in the Montreal metro system as a busker and includes tunes from Ireland, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Scotland, the Hebrides, Asturia, England, and Quebec.

I never released it beyond selling it while busking and at concerts! I've just now made it available on bandcamp: digital copies and limited physical copies.

100% of the proceeds from these album sales will go the Humanitarian Coalition, a group of 12 aid organizations pooling resources to help with crises internationally, and now in particular with the humanitarian catastrophe faced by Palestinians in Gaza. Until November 12th, the federal government is matching donations to the coalition, so contributions have twice the impact. I will cover all postage, payment, and bandcamp fees.

I’m very grateful for everyone out there right now organizing for peace and human rights, for the release of hostages, and calling for an immediate ceasefire as the bare minimum. http://ceasefirenow.ca/about

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to this fundraiser!

Fictional Music

On April 23, New Hermitage was part of Tom Richards' installation composition at the Halifax Central Libray - Fictional Music. This piece was inspired by Borges short story "The Library of Babel" and consisted of music played simultaneously on four floors by four different ensembles. The audience could walk around and explore the soundscape, mixing between the various musicians. It was very cool and will hopefully happen again!

Where Dance and Music Meet

Mocean Dance and 1313 Music Association co-presented this amazing show featuring 19 improvising musicians and dancers. This show represented many years of working and experimenting together, and in particular represented Susanne Chui and Jerry Granelli's long-time vision of a dance and music collaborative ensemble. It was a magical experience.
